When a growing fintech company's hiring process started getting in the way of attracting top talent, Altis helped simplify the experience and get their expansion plans back on track.
A fast-growing Canadian fintech company was expanding into Western Canada and needed to hire several specialized technical professionals, including Software Test Engineers and Data Scientists.
The company already had a structured hiring process in place, but despite a healthy candidate pipeline, hiring was moving slower than expected. Candidates were required to complete multiple rounds of assessments before reaching the interview stage, and many were being screened out early in the process.
After reviewing the data, it became clear that some highly qualified candidates weren't progressing, not because they lacked the skills or experience for the role, but because the assessment process wasn't effectively measuring what success in the role actually required.
With growth plans underway and key positions still open, the client needed a faster, more effective path to identifying and securing the right talent.
Rather than focusing solely on sourcing more candidates, we took a closer look at the hiring process itself.
We analyzed the assessment results and candidate progression data to understand where strong candidates were being lost. The findings pointed to a disconnect between the testing requirements and the real-world responsibilities of the roles.
Armed with those insights, we met directly with the client's leadership team to share what we were seeing and discuss the impact the process was having on hiring outcomes.
Together, we redesigned the assessment approach. The goal wasn't to lower the bar. It was to ensure the evaluation process reflected the skills and capabilities that actually mattered for success in the role.
By streamlining the assessments and focusing on role-relevant evaluation, the client was able to move qualified candidates through the process more efficiently while maintaining confidence in their hiring decisions.
Sometimes the challenge isn't finding qualified candidates. It's making sure the hiring process gives them a fair opportunity to demonstrate what they can do.
