Indigenous Apprenticeship Program

Creating meaningful pathways into HR and recruitment

Published on

September 22, 2026

Altis is proud to launch our inaugural Indigenous Apprenticeship Program, a paid learning opportunity designed to help Indigenous Peoples build practical experience in human resources and recruitment.

This program was created to open a more accessible pathway into a people-focused career field. You do not need previous corporate HR or recruitment experience to apply. We are looking for curiosity, transferable skills and a genuine interest in learning.

About the opportunity

The Indigenous Apprenticeship Program is a fully remote 12- to 14-week paid contract. As an HR & Recruitment Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Altis team members and gain exposure to different parts of the employee and recruitment lifecycle.

Your learning experience may include:

  • Supporting candidate sourcing, screening and recruitment activities
  • Learning how to review resumés and communicate with candidates
  • Building foundational interviewing and relationship-building skills
  • Gaining exposure to recruitment administration, references, payroll and employment standards
  • Participating in HR and recruitment projects, team meetings and training
  • And more

Your experience will evolve throughout the apprenticeship based on your interests, strengths and learning goals.

Who should apply

This program is available for an Indigenous person who identifies as First Nations, Inuit or Métis and is interested in building skills in HR, recruitment or a related people-focused field.

You may be a strong candidate if you:

  • Are curious, motivated and willing to learn
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in English
  • Are comfortable learning new technology and systems
  • Are organized, dependable and thoughtful in how you approach your work
  • Have previous work, volunteer, community, educational or other practical experience

We don’t expect you to have a traditional corporate background. Valuable skills can come from many different experiences and pathways.

Where this can lead

Our goal is for this apprenticeship to be a starting point, not simply a short-term placement.

Success means leaving the program with real HR and recruitment experience, practical skills you can speak to in future interviews, greater confidence navigating a professional workplace and relationships that can support your career development.

Where there is strong mutual alignment, Altis will explore opportunities for continued contract work, future employment or connections to opportunities through our broader professional network.

Our commitment

Altis is committed to creating stronger pathways between Indigenous talent and meaningful employment opportunities in HR and recruitment.

This program is one part of that commitment. It reflects our desire to create more equitable employment opportunities, build more meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and support career development in a respectful, practical and people-first way.

We recognize that Indigenous Peoples have diverse histories and experiences. Apprentices will never be expected to speak on behalf of Indigenous Peoples as a whole or educate others about Indigenous culture or history.

Our commitment is to create a respectful learning environment where you can focus on building your skills, gaining experience and exploring what a career in HR and recruitment could look like.
