From a kitchen table in Ottawa to one of Canada's leading independent staffing firms.
In 1989, Kathryn Tremblay and Toni Guimaraes started Altis with a simple belief: recruitment should feel personal.
What began around a kitchen table in Ottawa grew through relationships, referrals and a commitment to genuinely caring about the people behind every hire.
Over the past 37+ years, Altis has evolved alongside the changing world of work, expanding across industries, specialties and markets while staying grounded in the same people-first approach the company was built on from day one.
Today, Altis supports organizations and job seekers across Canada through specialized recruitment, workforce solutions and long-term hiring partnerships across both the private and public sectors.
Even as the business has grown, the focus has stayed the same: building strong relationships, doing great work and helping people move forward.
1989
Kathryn and Toni launch the business from their Murray Street apartment on March 1.
1990
Excel Temporary Resources is created after realizing temporary staffing was the path forward.
2006
Altis earns its first Best Managed Companies designation.
2012
The Toronto team launches the firm’s dedicated IT recruitment specialty.
2016
Co-founder Toni Guimaraes passes away, leaving a lasting imprint on how we think, build and care for people.
2025
Team Altis celebrates 36 years of people-first recruitment in Toronto.
